The Debate ListServ is the way that the Debate Society stays in contact with both members and prospective members through the summer and during the school year. Joining the ListServ is a great way to learn more about the Debate Society, and we strongly recommend that anyone interested sign up.
What do you do on the ListServ?
During the school year, the Executive Board uses the ListServ to tell members and interested students about meeting times and locations, as well as more general information about the Debate Society. During the summer, the ListServ is used to both send out information about the Debate Society and to host a number of competitions and other fun activities. These are meant to keep you in debating shape (so to speak), and to help familiarize you with our style of debate.
Does joining the ListServ mean that I have to join Debate?
Nope! You can join the ListServ just to learn more about Debate without any commitment to joining the Debate Society. Additionally, if you ever want to be taken off of the ListServ, you can just send us an email to debate@audebate.org asking to be removed, and you’ll be taken off immediately.
How do I sign up?
All you have to do is fill out a short form that lets us know a little about your debate background (all experience levels are welcome!) and gives us your name. To do so, click here!
Is this going to be a spam thing?
Nope! We send out emails pretty infrequently, and they’re usually about summer contests or information on upcoming Debate events, like our kickoff meetings or our first set of practices. During the school year, we also send out summaries of how the team did at that week’s tournament. Again, if this ever becomes too annoying, you can email us and get taken off the ListServ.
What if I missed some of the messages already?
Don’t worry! We have transcripts, as well as links to all of the videos posted on the ListServ, on the website here. If you want to see the actual emails that went out earlier, just ask us via email!
